Amanda Bakke is a Research Assistant at the Dr. Gilles Arcand Centre for Health Equity. Amanda completed her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at the University of Guelph and her Master of Science in Medical Science at McMaster University. Amanda’s Master’s Thesis was focused on factors that influence the composition of the vaginal microbiome to reduce susceptibility to STI’s by creating a novel in vitro model of biofilm formation on vaginal epithelial cells.

Amanda Bakke was born and raised in Thunder Bay and has a personal investment in the health and wellbeing of her hometown community. After completing her education, Amanda returned to Thunder Bay to advance her career in research. After securing a contract position as a Research Assistant in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre Emergency Department, Amanda also joined the TBRHSC Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee and Chaired the Pride Sub-Committee. Amanda has a passion for EDI, social justice and anti-oppressive practice, specifically in healthcare, and has volunteered with various organizations that align with these values. Amanda is now furthering her commitment to Health Equity research with her position at the centre. In her spare time Amanda enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, traveling and enjoying summers at her cottage.
